I was blog hopping to some of my favorite blogs and I came across the 39 squares Blog where Amy is documenting her creation of a 39 square sampler. It's kind of a free form embroidery, not the classic style. She is embroidering a square a day. She finished recently and I just loved her finished product.
Keeping in mind, I have absolutely no embroidering experience, I decided to give it a try. (Ha) After a little visit to my favorite store...I sat down this evening and dove in. I'm attempting a 24 square sampler and want to do one square a day. So by the end of the month, hopefully I will have something worth framing.
Here is square number 1:
I figure if I get good enough, I know three little boys who could use framed samplers hung on their walls, although I don't think I can embroider Darth Vader or Jabba the Hut.
Wow! I'm impressed. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the heart in the middle made out of? Good job so far! I am not much of a thread and needle kind of gal.
ReplyDeletekmassman - the heart in the middle is a button actually. We used them on some wedding invitations we did for a friend and I had some left over. I think they are so cute.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Lindalou ... it's the perfect day to stay inside, work on your craft, and watch the Tigers win!
ReplyDeleteNice job! I don't embroider, I just stick to quilting :)
ReplyDeleteI went out and got the stuff and got excited and did.....one square. Maybe two- I need to hunt it up to see. Your post has inspired me. Who says I had to do it in the same 39 days as everyone else? My fear though is that handwork is so much more of a "winter" thing for me that it may not be revisited until fall. I'll be watching for yours to inspire me along!
ReplyDeletewhat a cool project!
